There definitely were four different fashion themes going on from left to right there:
1. Frumpy casual. Unfortunately this is kind of what my office looks like on Fridays.
2. Dressy (but a little metrosexual) casual. You are right though in that he runs the risk of getting overheated with a fashion accessory which really has no function.
3. Power ("you will respect me") Suit. I do agree with you on the tie. That color does not work here in the midwest. For what it is worth, if that is Adam Jones, I like his game and would put up with the tie if I was the Orioles and he only wore it once in a while.
4. "I would rather be killing animals" ensemble.
I also agree that the double helix thing seems out of place but maybe a science fair was moving in the next day or something.

Leave him alone. He's a role model for the kids. Do you really want you kids to go around all dressed up wearing a pink tie? Or a scarf indoors?
