Remember when the Twins got criticized for taking Joe Mauer over Mark Prior with the #1 pick in 2001?

Mark Prior had all the "Tools of the Trade" and the Twins blew it by passing on him and picking some local kid.

Ummm....maybe not.

Sweet card though. Absolute Memorabilia used to have it all going on.

LOL. What a difference it would've made, for both teams, had the Twins taken Prior. Well, maybe not for both teams. The Cubs still wouldn't have won a world series.

Not only is Prior the next Nolan Ryan, but he's also got perfect mechanics so he'll never get hurt. The Twins are crazy for having passed on that guy. Mauer may be the man right now, but Prior's a sure-fire HOFer, just you wait.

To my untrained eye, Prior did seem to have a pretty smooth delivery but what do I know.

During his first rehab stint, he pitched for our local Class A team, the Lansing Lugnuts and unfortunately I could not make it to the park that night. In the Lugnuts store at the park, they still have t-shirts that say "Mark Prior pitched here" with the date etc. They are now in the half-off rack with the 2002 Midwest All Star Game t-shirts.
