"shock and dismay"

On this day in 1974, a controversial call helped the Astros beat the Reds 4-3.

Johnny Bench's single in the 7th inning scores one run but the second base runner, Joe Morgan, is called out at the plate negating the tying run though replays show him to be safe.

The Cincinnati City Council later passes a resolution stating their "shock and dismay" at the "atrocious call".

This was right after the vote on the barking dog ordinance and just before the vote to make Chernobyl, Russia their "sister city".
