Mike Maroth

The last 20 game loser (9-21 in 2003) in major league baseball retires.

"I always wanted to come back and win 20, just to do it both ways."

As a (partial) Tiger season ticket holder, I have had more than my share of days when I looked to see who was starting for the game I had and said "Oh man, Maroth!"*

*Not complainin'. Any game is a good game.

Man, what happened to the young arms the Tigers had coming up in those years? From Maroth to Bonderman to Miller things just went sideways for those guys.

Good point though I am not sure Maroth ever was seen as someone that had potential. The Andrew Miller thing is perplexing, no doubt.

As far as I'm concerned, Andrew Miller did exactly what he was supposed to do--acquire Miguel Cabrera. That he didn't work out was the Marlins' fault.

Unrelated: Mike Maroth, specifically the card shown above, has the distinction of being the last card I need for the 2007 Topps Gold team set.
