On this date in 1942 at California's Folsom prison, the annual game between the major leaguers including Ernie Lombardi and the prison team is stopped when it is discovered that two prisoners have escaped with the pros leading 24-5 in the seventh inning. The game ends and guards go after the lifers who are captured three hours later.
Lombardi knew something was up when he got that inside-the-park home run on that routine fly to right field.
