Bill Dickey

On this date in 1932, Bill Dickey of the Yankees punches and breaks Carl Reynolds' jaw after the Senators outfielder collides with him on a play at the plate. The American League suspends Dickey for 30 days and fines him $1000.

"It was hot, and the games had been close, and I had been banged around for a day. When Reynolds came at me high, I just had to hit somebody."
