Jeff Juden

Born on today's date, Jeff Juden.

"So Pedro Martinez is playing that song ('Celebrate' by 'Kool and the Gang') on the plane, and dancing around. I told him to turn it off. He said no, so I broke the CD player. Pedro looked at me and said 'If that was my CD player, I'd break it over your head'. I looked at him and said, 'Little man, you'll never break anything over my head'. That was it for me in Montreal and they traded me to Cleveland."

I was fortunate enough to be at The Vet on August 25, 1995 when ROY Hideo Nomo got shelled, Gregg Jefferies hit for the cycle, Darren Daulton blew out his knee badly enough to end his catching career, and -- most improbably -- Jeff Juden hit a line drive, grand slam that just barely cleared the wall in the right field corner in the bottom of the 4th. I don't believe I've ever before or since, at a game or live on television, seen a pitcher hit a grand slam. But, I can say I was there when Juden hit that one -- the only one of his career.

Oh, and he pitched a complete game that day too. It that game was almost cetainly the highlight of his career.
