When he retired prematurely due to the eye injury, I thought what tough luck, if he had 4 or 5 more great years, he could be considered for the Hall of Fame. And then he was in. To this day, I don't really understand it.

I've never fully understood Kirby being in the HOF. I guess he was inducted more for what could have been, rather than what was.
