David Clyde

On this date in 1973, 18-year-old David Clyde just out of high school makes his debut with the Rangers before 35,698, the largest Rangers crowd of the year. He goes five innings giving up only one hit - a 2-run home run - walks seven and strikes out eight on the way to a 4-3 victory.

"I really feel, and I've always said this, that David Clyde was wronged by almost everyone who handled his career. Had he gone through the minors, if he had been given a chance to breathe on his own, away from the cameras and the sportswriters and the pressure of having to save what was a bad organization, I think he would have had a terrific career." - former Rangers GM, Tom Grieve
