Jack Aker

Born on today's date, Jack Aker.

"Kansas City had a pitcher named Jack Aker who was one of the worst guys I ever saw at throwing at guys. He hit Pete Ward a couple of times. I was pitching and when Kansas City's Rick Monday came up to bat, I hit him right in the face and broke his jaw. I felt very bad over it but Ward kept getting hit." - Gary Peters

The difference between Jack Aker and Gary Peters was that Aker NEVER hit anyone in the head. Peters was far inferior to Aker as a pitcher and was not able to properly hit/brush back hitters to control the plate. Aker, like many of the pitching greats of the time, knew how to take control, and still never hit more than six guys in a season.

By the way, Peters hit as many as 11 batters in a season, so it's pretty much the pot calling the kettle black.
