John Hiller
On this date in 1972, 27-year-old Tigers reliever John Hiller suffers a heart attack. He will miss the entire 1972 season and make an incredible comeback in 1973, saving a then major league record 38 games.
"Run out and push him towards second base. If he falls toward the plate, it's a balk." - umpire, Nestor Chylak to Norm Cash who asked what would happen if Hiller had a heart attack on the mound with a runner on third base
