Born on today's date, Don Mattingly.
"Honestly, at one time I thought Babe Ruth was a cartoon character. I really did. I mean, I wasn't born until 1961 and I grew up in Indiana."

Don't quit your day job
Thursday, March 11, 2010
Whoops!

Per AP, Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly said Wednesday that the team has made overtures about him eventually becoming Joe Torre's permanent replacement.
In a meeting this winter with Dodgers general manager, Ned Colletti, owner Frank McCourt (well his wife says that she is the......oh forget it) and team president Dennis Mannion, Mattingly said the word manager was brought up but "nothing definitive" was discussed.
"We talked about it, for sure," he said.
After this, Mattingly then went out and managed his first ever major league spring training (split squad) game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In this game, it is noted that the Dodgers batted out of order due to a managerial gaffe where the lineup card given to the home plate umpire was different than the one Mattingly was using in the dugout. Andre Ethier came up to the plate twice in the span of three Dodger batters.
Okay, we get the "still learning" thing but ummm.........better not quit your day job just yet, Don.
Just sayin'.
