Joe McCarthy
On this day in 1947, Joe McCarthy comes out of retirement accepting the managing position of the Red Sox for 1948.
When asked how he would get along with Ted Williams, McCarthy responded, "A manager who cannot get along with a .400 hitter ought to have his head examined."
