Of the top 10 payrolls....

....9 are home now.

BUT the 10th is still alive. Fighting and clawing against the little guys!

Congratulations Detroit Tigers for persevering!

So the Mudhe....I mean Tigers just got this "Joehawnee" guy

Well ok but I don't know about clubhouse chemistry here or that he will fit in very well as he hasn't played in AAA for some time.

I don't know how they are going to handle a guy with "experience".

Actually I don't think the Tigers have had a player with a misspelled first name since Heinie Elder in 1913.

Unfortunately, they were 66-87 that year and good enough for 12th place.

I hate omens.

Hey Tigers!

Maybe it wasn't the ballpark after all.

Did you know...

....that we are now 12 games into the season and the Tigers do not have a home run from a non-Venezeulan player?

Good thing for that country, huh?

Maybe the Orioles should throw a scout down there.

Only two teams lost money; one badly

Maury Brown at bizofbaseball.com reports on a Forbes report on the annual valuations of Major League Baseball's 30 teams.

A lot of good stuff there but in particular Forbes reports that only two teams lost money last year. Arizona had a slight operating loss (-0.6%) while the Tigers hemorrhaged money with a $29.5 million loss.*

Hmmmm.

It was all Curtis Granderson's fault.

(They had to blame someone, you know)

*They sell kids t-shirts in the Tiger shop at the park for $25 so they are trying.**

**They also do crazy things like having a "sale" rack with stuff on it that has the same price as the exact same stuff on the other "non sale" racks. "Sale" just really means that they will sell it to you. You know, the item is for "sale". Again, they are trying.

Worst defensive outfield in history?

"Carlos Guillen is our everyday leftfielder, and hopefully he'll be productive. If he's looking for reassurance, we want him to play everyday"

Jim Leyland last October to mlb.com in response to Guillen's complaints about Leyland's crazy lineups.

Remember after the debacle of the 2008 season, when the Tigers said from now on they would win with solid defense among other things?

Unless they tell Damon to leave his glove at home, they may have an outfield of Johnny Damon, Carlos Guillen (gotta keep your promises) and Magglio Ordonez.

Worst defensive outfield in major league history?

In spacious Comerica Park?

Here is a better idea. Why not put Scott Boras on the "do not call" list like the White Sox did years ago and run the team the way you want; not the way he wants?

No doubters here

Things are looking pretty good for the Tigers being three games up on the Twins with four to play.

It would take a monumental Jim Leyland-type collapse*.......(Oh, no. I said it out loud!).

This is like "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" situation in reverse where Linus was sitting in the pumpkin patch waiting for the mythical Great Pumpkin when he inadvertently blurted out that maybe, just maybe he didn't believe in the Great Pumpkin and then the Great Pumpkin never came and Linus' only visitor that night was a beagle.

Whoops!

FORGET I SAID ANYTHING!

*Jim Leyland's Tiger teams have a storied history of second-half collapses.

Jim Leyland's workout regime

Whew! Man, I have only taken 3 swings and I am whipped.

I need to get back to the clubhouse. The air here is too clean and fresh.

Must....(gasp)....have....(gasp)....a....(gasp)....cigarette.

"Hey Billy! Come on over here and finish this drill up for me...........Thanks man, I owe you one."
