Billy Hatcher

On this date in 1987, Billy Hatcher of the Astros is ejected from a game and suspended for 10 games for using a corked bat.

"I was out of bats and I grabbed one of the pitchers' bats."

What is the scenario for the "running out of bats" situation to occur?

Really curious.

The bat was a little corky

Born on today's date, Chris Sabo.

Chris was a three time All Star, the 1988 NL Rookie of the Year and a World Series champion in 1990 with the Reds.

But with the good, you gotta take the bad.

In his final season in 1996, during a game in July, Chris shattered a bat which turned out to have been filled with cork and he was subsequently suspended for seven games.

Bummer! Just a bummer! Evidence all over the field!

What can you possibly say other than something like "It's not my bat and I don't know who's it is."

Well, he did.
