Gil Hodges
On this date in 1958, in a 10-1 win over the Braves, Gil Hodges hits his 14th career grand slam establishing a new National League record.
"He is the kind of boy who makes his scout's job safe for 20 years."

Do NOT slight this man!
Yesterday in the Red Sox/Phillies game, Daniel Nava of the Red Sox hit the first pitch he ever saw in the major leagues for a grand slam; only the second player in history to do this.
Nava per AP, "I wanted to treat it like I normally do. I just said 'How are you guys doing (the umpire Bill Hohn and catcher, Brian Schneider)'. They didn't say anything."
Boom! Take that you snobs!
Ironically, the next time Nava came up, the bases were also loaded.
You can bet Schneider talked to him that time.
He's no fool.
