We have a handyman/repairman who does work around our house who's name is Keith. Now Keith seemingly can fix just about anything and for a quite reasonable fee. He is also polite and professional and I appreciate that. Every homeowner should know someone like Keith.
One thing about Keith is that he is just a little unkempt and also has long hair which is below the shoulder. No problem on this end. I know that he likes to play guitar as he has a "Fender" bumper sticker on his truck and he told me that between job appointments, he will sometimes go to the nearest Guitar Center store and pick up a guitar there and play for a few hours to pass the time. Cool by me.
Anyway, Keith was doing some work at our house the other day. After he left, my 6 year old son "Skate Kid" said to me in a somewhat negative tone, "Keith has really long hair." Of course this is true but I used this as an opportunity to tell him that you really should not judge people solely on how they look. He responded, "I know but Keith has really, really long hair." As I sensed I was not making much progress, I told him that nice people come in all shapes, sizes and hair styles and it is not right to judge someone based just on how they look. I went on to add that most pictures of Jesus have him with long hair and most people think he was a pretty good guy.
I should have anticipated what was coming next.
"Dad, can I have long hair like Keith?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Ummmmm, well, errrr, (Ok, I am hit) because Keith has REALLY REALLY long hair."
That was the best I could do.
We are still going to keep his regular appointment at the barber.
