No bobbleheads tonight. We are throwing them out.

Per the Clearwater Threshers, a minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, website, the Pat Burrell bobblehead promotion scheduled for Friday night has been cancelled. The Threshers were having bi-weekly World Series bobblehead giveaways to celebrate the Phillies winning the 2008 World Series. The plan was to give away a bobblehead of every starting player in the Phillies 2008 World Series lineup. The Threshers had previously given away bobbleheads of Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins but the Pat Burell bobblehead giveaway as well as all future bobblehead promotions have been cancelled due to....(petty behavior upcoming)....the Tampa Bay Rays who probably not coincidentally lost to the Phillies in the 2008 World Series.

Apparently (and I should note that the Threshers are too diplomatic to mention this on their website but this has been confirmed through other sources), the Rays have chosen to execute a rarely used agreement between Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball that allows any MLB club to prohibit a minor league franchise within 60 miles of their club to give away bobblehead dolls at any game. I guess the Rays are pathetically claiming that these 1500 bobbleheads given away at a minor league game nearby will negatively affect their gate. I say pathetic because it truly is pathetic for any major league team to be at all concerned with the actions of a low minor league affiliate of another major league team that just so happens to play near them. That is not being very neighborly if you ask me.

To the Rays, you are assured of bad karma for the foreseeable future and I personally am wishing the following things happen to your franchise:

1. I hope a potential game winning home run hits one of those weird catwalks above the field in your park and lands in the mitt of an opposing infielder. (Bad karma not over)

2. I hope Scott Kazmir never gets off the DL. (I like Kazmir and all but there is some bad karma going on out there for some reason)

3. I hope the Florida legislature led by the Clearwater congressmen pass a law that taxes the Rays profits at a 100% rate. If there are no profits (which I suspect is the case), all the better.

Sorry! Hell hath no fury like a bobblehead collector scorned!
