Now batting for the Giants, Number 42 Jackie Robinson

The above is one of several 1959-style novelty VIP cards that Topps will be giving away at the National Sports Collectors Convention later this month in Cleveland. Of course, Jackie's stint with the Giants was non-existent as he never suited up with them after being traded there in 1956 which makes the card desirable. It is nice looking too.

Computer Boy and I attend every "National" that is held in the Midwest so this will be the third National that we will walk the hallowed aisles of.......well a heckuva lot of baseball cards. Like a number approaching infinity. For us "non-VIP" types, all we need are tickets, shoes and a shirt and we are in. After examining several thousand baseball cards over an 8 hour period, we might even do other things in Cleveland.*

Both Computer Boy and I are definitely "non-VIP" type of people so this card will have to exist for us only on this blog unless an actual VIP wants to trade it for a pack of 1989 Score or a Joe Charboneau rookie card or something else that is uniquely ours. Otherwise, blog "ownership" of this card will have to suffice and we are fine with this. It will reside in "virtual" form with us forever. Kind of like a poor man's E-Topps.

*The Tigers are in Cleveland that weekend so I will give 1 1/2 guesses as to what else we will be doing while there.
