In last night A's/White Sox game, A's pitcher, Brett Tomko faced White Sox batter, A. J. Pierzynski in the fourth inning with the A's up 8-2. This is the same Brett Tomko who when he and Pierzynski were teammates with the Giants in 2004, accused Pierzynski of being a clubhouse cancer. In other words, they are not the godparents of each other's kids or anything like that.
With Tomko now being in the American League with a chance to face Pierzynski and with a big lead, what do you think happened when Pierzynski came up to bat?
Yep! Tomko hit him.
It's not easy being A. J., you know.

Now, to be fair, A.J. is listed as 6' 3" and 220 lbs.
He's a big guy. Bigger than me. He's a big target.
Maybe Brett thought he saw a wasp or a bee on A.J.
Or perhaps he was trying to eradicate the cancer.
Probably just still ticked at him.
Tomko has sucked for years with a wide variety of teams. I don't think he should be critical of ANYONE.
Mark, that is a pretty good alternative theory but I do think the weight of the evidence points elsewhere. As I recall, A. J. likes professional wrestling so maybe that is the best venue for those two.
Night Owl, I was at my in-laws a few weekends ago and the Tigers were playing the A's and Tomko was pitching for the A's. My father-in-law is not a baseball fan and doesn't know the players but is getting interested as the Tigers are doing well this year. He asked if Tomko was any good. I told him that he was a journeyman and not good and things were looking good for the Tigers. Unfortunately, he was reassured. Tomko then channelled the ghost of Catfish Hunter and shut down the Tigers. Thanks, Brett. No invitation for dinner the following weekend.
