Dodgers blow it though Manny is blissfully unaware as he is showering

Per Jon Paul Morosi at foxsports.com, Manny Ramirez was blissfully unaware of the Dodgers collapse in the ninth inning of Game 4 of the NLCS because he was doing a "rub a dub" thing in the shower at the time.

Manny had been removed earlier in the game for a defensive replacement and showering took precedence over cheering on his teammates in this important game.

"When I came out, they were turning the TVs off and everybody was coming in," Ramirez said.

Joe Torre tried to his best to put a not-so-negative spin on this. "Manny has so much confidence," he said. "When we get a lead late in the game, and I've taken him out, whether it be for defense or we have a big lead, when we go to shake hands after the game, he's in his street clothes. So it's nothing different than he's done before. I don't think it's disrespect or anything."

Well what is it?

I can just see it. Manny is pulled from the game and says to his teammates, "I have so much confidence in you guys that I am out of here. The traffic can get really bad after the game, you know. I will be listening on the car radio. Keep fighting!"

I have no way of knowing but I bet the reality is that he said nothing.

What if there is a bench-clearing brawl while Manny is in the shower? Does he come out "as he is"? Ain't nobody gonna fight with him then. Manny would be the ultimate peacemaker.

And they gave the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama!

This is one of the reasons why I hate Manny Ramirez. He is just a selfish a-hole. He doesn't give a s--- about his team or teammates; he's in it for the money. He cheated and took steroids to earn bigger paychecks. And what really tops it off is it is somehow accepted and tolerated. Why is he given a free pass? Why is it okay? Why can he just be "Manny being Manny"? That doesn't make any sense to me. You think you would see Utley, Howard, Rollins, Werth, Victorino, Ruiz, Feliz or ANY of the Phillies do that?? Ah, no. Because the Phillies have class and are a team. Manny is in it for himself and no one else. To him, this is just another game to get paid; no different than a game in April. Why does Torre, or anyone else, tolerate it? I don't care if that's what's been done in the past - get in his face, yell at him, fine him or even bench him. For some reason, this guy is tolerated, just like they won't release Bonds' name on the Mitchell report; they are afraid of the race card being played. It's amazing. This is what is wrong with the country today; tolerating total d-bags like Manny and Bonds.

I think that it is tolerated because he is so good. What you lose in locker room morale etc, you gain in the field and wins on the field translate into dollars.

Same thing going on with Terrell Owens and the Buffalo Bills (though the Bills have the worst of both worlds as they are not winning and also have T.O.)

I don't like or respect Manny in the least but he sure does give bloggers like me a great deal to write about so in that sense selfishly I am glad that he is around.

You and anonymous pretty much covered what I might have said about the topic.

Manny's not the first guy to do stuff like this, he won't be the last. People make exceptions for people who have extraordinary talent. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying Manny is far from the first.

I think I know what respective teams Matt and Night Owl root for. (Well I knew anyway but...)
