According to ESPN.com, Scott Boras is talking with the Cardinals regarding free agent outfielder, Matt Holliday and apparently will not give a specific demand but keeps referencing Mark Teixeira's contract and comparing Holliday to Teixeira. Teixeira has an eight-year, $180 million contract. In other words, $22.5 million a year.
We're talking Matt Holliday here.
Yea, that Matt Holliday.
Hey Scott Boras! Albert Pujols is twice as good as Matt Holliday* and the Cardinals will need to deal with him soon and I don't see them paying Albert $45 million a year so you need to sit down. You know in that chair with all the splinters. Look, I know that you are pissed that you don't have a marquee name player in this year's free agent crop but that is just the way it is. Some people have off years, you know. Take your commission on the $17-18 million a year on this one and move on.
*That dropped ball in the playoffs sure doesn't help things either.

I know: Holliday had a monster second half with the Cards. Still, his home/away splits while with the Rockies give one a MUCH better idea of what one can expect in a long term contract. Of course, Boras' job is to shine up turds, so we know how this one will end..
I don't think a truly elite player has the type of first half that Holliday had in Oakland or the extreme home/road splits that he had in Colorado. A nice player and all but.....
I think the Cardinals are a pretty well run organization. I suspect that they have a figure in mind for Holliday and won't get caught up bidding against themselves or non-existent other teams that Boras always says are out there but really aren't. I don't think Boras is holding the cards on this one and Holliday is not really the caliber of player that a team would panic over and overpay in fear of losing him.
Actually, I think this one will be interesting to watch.
