Noodle-armed productive player still unemployed. Ummm why?

Bill Madden of the New York Daily News reports that Scott Boras was pitching the services of Johnny Damon to the Yankees at the same time that he was making the case with the Yankees for his other outfield client, Rick Ankiel.

It's good to see that Johnny Damon has Scott Boras' undivided attention and that there aren't any of those pesky conflicts going on here.

Madden also reports that the Yankees asked Boras to give them a bottom line for what Damon would be willing to play for so they could take it to Hal Steinbrenner to see if they could work this into their budget. Boras' response was reportedly the "there are other mystery teams interested in Damon" fiction.

Does it say "one trick pony" on his business card?

WTF, I think I speak for all Yankee fans when saying that we don't want Rick Ankiel even if he agrees to play for $100. Ankiel isn't any good! We want Damon back, and we want Boras to be exiled to Antarctica where he won't have any way of ruining things!

The mystery team is the Fargo-Moorehead Red Hawks of the Independent Northern League. They are offering Damon $1000 a month and summer-long housing at the widow Ludvigson's place.

Now that we've lifted the curtain on that one you can see why Boras keeps referring to them as the "mystery team," yeah?

"Noodle-armed". HA! Damon, Granderson, and Kirk Gibson should all have a throwing contest.

I hate agents almost as much as politicians.

You're right, it's a conflict of interest to represent two players of the same position to the same team. In the end, Boras is looking to max his payday - nothing more.

Nico, I agree that Ankiel to the Yankees would be a bad fit. As a matter of fact, I think Ankiel to any major league team is a bad fit.

CCC, at least he can credibly say that there is a "mystery team" then. The throw in of the exclusive services of Ms. Ludvigson might make it worth considering for Damon. Tiger went wrong because there were so many of them. This would be different. TMZ doesn't get up that way anyway.

Sewingmachineguy, I frankly forgot about Kirk's throwing issues. I know that you "throw how you throw" but he did not exactly have the most fluid motion to put it mildly. That said, he did not throw grounders to the infield like Johnny.

G Moses, Agree and I think there was also a type of an "indirect" conflict when Boras admitted that he told Damon he would have to wait to work on his deal until after he completed the Holliday deal. By that time, it may have been too late as teams were filling their needs and Damon was essentially "off the market" until his agent had time to work for him. Who is looking out exclusively for the interests of Damon? It ain't Boras.

I'm not anti-agent because that is fairly close to be anti-Curt Flood.

BUT I am anti-extremism. Boras is the fringe. He lies and tricks and cons. He is not the healthy aspect of free agency. Boras works in clever loopholes and propaganda.

On the other hand, Damon is asking far more than he deserves and part of me likes to see the 'Wall of No' built up in front of Boras and Damon.

Damon is positioned as if he is a man who can field and throw and hit 35 hr with a .900 OPS.

He hit 17 hr at home. Everyone did.
