Who you kidding?
I note that Chico Harlan of the Washington Post recently conducted a "Q & A" with newly signed reliever for the Nationals, Matt Capps.
Capps has had issues with his weight before and in response to a question from Harlan about that, he said in part:
"I can step on the scale today and be 252 and tomorrow be 243. My weight jumps up and down real quick, and I don't know what the cause is. But I try not to put too much emphasis on weight. A lot of it goes on how I feel. I've had two pretty rough years in my career, one in 2004 and one last year. And the common denominator in those two years is that I came into camp in unbelievable shape."
Sounds like a rationalization for a weight problem to me and I don't think I am buying it. Nope, don't think I am buying it.
Did anybody see Bobby Jenks pitch last year (when not on DL) when he just so "coincidentally" got massive?
Does anybody remember newly puffed-up Dice K's performance last year when he was even able to pitch?
Has anybody seen the bloated Dontrelle Willis' stats (major and minor league) the last three years?
Want more proof?
Just how hard do you think a sumo wrestler can throw?
When they were casting for that movie, "Field of Dreams", who did they choose for the lead? Kevin Costner or John Candy?
Do you think Leslie West can pitch as well as he can play guitar?
Case closed.
You can't deny it.
Capps should look at this.

I'll never get why some pro-athletes can't do the bare minimum their job requires---stay in shape. Dudes get PAID to do it.
A real great pick-up for the Nats. What a joke.
Of course, he could be trying to emulate CC. CC's pinstripes are not parrallel the last time I looked and he's doing ok for himself.
I bet CC's uniform probably sets the record for the most pinstripes on one uniform and probably beats Babe Ruth by a wide* margin. I bet that his number also doubles Wang's or Gardner's.
*Sorry, bad pun.
