At least they're honest
Major League Baseball has unveiled a new line of batting practice caps this year.
Paul Lukas at ESPN asked Todd Sokolowski, an executive at cap manufacturer New Era why players need a separate cap for spring training and pregame workouts.
Sokolowski's response:
"Truthfully, it's an opportunity for fans to buy additional caps. So the reason we keep changing the design? Yeah, it's for retail."
Of course, these caps will be obsolete next year when MLB and New Era gives fans another "opportunity..to buy additional caps".
Hey stop shaking your head! Garment workers need something to do, you know!

I like honesty.
"Truthfully, it's an opportunity for fans to buy additional caps" is a lot better than, "the real winners today are the millions of fans who collect baseball cards."
Good for Sokolowski. He's not lying scum.
Although I think he could have gone a step farther and added, "Also, these things look terrible."
I commend the guy's honesty. That is a hard trait to come by these days. But if I were a player I would want to wear the same hat for as long as posible. I wouldn't give it up for relics to be made, I wouldn't have spares for practice, I wouldn't keep one in the home locker room while having another for on the road, and I certainly wouldn't want a retailer to dictate my hat wearing tendencies. I am very loyal to my hats and I have a feeling that there are quite a few ball players out there who are as well. that would annoy me
Yes, but, the designs are absolutely AWFUL. Racing stripes? Reall? Why not a big #89 on the side of each rookies cap?
Yep, I like hats too and like to wear the same couple for a few years straight, cuz it's like your hat. If you are provided a new hat every game or every batting pracatice, it's just a hat. It's not "your" hat.
I am also not a fan of "busy" hats which would include stripes so it sounds like we have a four person consensus here.
I have had the same hat for over 6 years now. plain blue with a big red B. The perfect hat.
I just got the Jays '09 BP cap from Olympia Sports for a cool $10. Could have got 2 for $15. Really should have, since I collect hats and all.
