Mark McGwire Highway in danger

AP reports that the Missouri Senate voted unanimously Monday to rename a stretch of Interstate 70 in St. Louis that was previously designated the Mark McGwire Highway to the Mark Twain Highway.

First off, Tony LaRussa is gonna be like mega-pissed about this but maybe if he told all those guys to throw out those needles years ago, we wouldn't have these problems.

Well anyway, Mark Twain certainly smoked a lot of cigars and that may or may not have helped him write but for now, I think it is safe to name this highway after him.

For now!

*Whoops! Spoke too soon. NBC Sports today reminds us that Mark Twain was a frequent visitor to the opium dens in San Francisco throughout his life. Hey Missouri State Legislature! Opium?! Come on now! Do you have a third choice in mind? We got kids that live in Missouri, you know.

Also don't forget that Twain wrote that book that they are constantly tying to ban, Huckleberry Finn. Maybe they should pick someone safe to name the road after. How about Jesse James?

Howard,

Good point.

That 1% of the population that wants Huckleberry Finn banned does need to be placated so Mark Twain is definitely out here. While a Misourian, Jesse James has that pesky problem of a negative connotation associated with train robberies and murders.

Harry Truman was a prominent Missourian but then again he has that problem of dropping an atomic bomb on two different cities a while back. Some would object.

I was in Missouri (Springfield) months ago and all I saw were Arkansas Razorback bumper stickers so they may not have any ideas there either.

I am all out of ideas really.

See the real problem was Speed. The steroid injections were going in Mark faster than the actual MPH allowed on the road. This did upset some members of the Senate and therefore change became necessary.

I say we name it the "Randy Orton RKO highway" instead. You could call it the "Quantum Leap" highway as Scott Bakula is from around those parts. Or even Kane "Highway to Hell" Highway. There's also the "Pat LaFontaine Concussion Highway".
You could also call it the "Rusty Wallace all left turns highway".

All interesting choices. Actually, LaFontaine is from my neighborhood so he is out.

As to Randy Orton, years ago my oldest watched wrestling and all but lost interest after a few years but I watched it with him during that time. I thought Orton was a pretty effective heel but I could never get past the fact that he was completely unable to make the fighting look in any way "real". It was more cartoon than a comic book. I don't know if he still has that problem but I bet that he does.

Actually his rings skills have improved tremendously along with his outside the ring skills. That's why I suggested him or did you not see the article about him getting into fights or "supposedly" spitting on a crippled kid.

Actually I had not heard that but I just brought up an article on it. The "he said/she said" things get a little messy sometimes.
