50 game suspension! (But you won't have to serve it)
So Edinson Volquez of the Reds gets suspended for 50 games for taking a performance-enhancing drug. Volquez says it is a fertility drug.
Volquez happens to be on 60 day dl and is not expected back until July at the earliest. The suspension is effective 4-21-10.
Do the math. Oh, he will lose some salary but he won't serve a game of the suspension.
Where can I join a union like that?

Sad. Just plain sad.
Yeah, I didn't really understand that either.
I'm so sick of the cheating. I was planning to go to a Nationals game and an Orioles game this summer while on vacation. Now, I'm not sure I will.
Volquez doesn't make a lot of money, so the money he will be losing is significant. That's more damaging than missing time on the field since he's missing it anyway. If you asked Volquez, he'd probably rather miss the time than the money, which works out to about $143,000. I really like your site by the way.
All,
Yes, I do know that considering Volquez has not been in the league that long and has probably not had time to build much in savings that the loss of pay will be a significant hit. It just seems very strange for somebody to receive a a very long suspension and not have to serve any of it.
William,
Thank you for the compliment.
Kevin
