End of an era

Today is a historic day in the life of Tiger manager, Jim Leyland.

You see Michigan's new law banning smoking in public buildings takes effect tomorrow and tonight's game will be the last time that Jim Leyland can legally chain-smoke at Comerica Park.*

As an added bonus, I will be there to witness this historic end of an era.

Just think of the changes that are about to happen. Sportswriters will hardly recognize the Tiger manager now that they will not be talking to him through clouds of smoke. The bullpen catcher presumably will no longer be bothered to go fetch Jim a pack of cigarettes in the middle of a game. Sportswriters, players, clubhouse attendants or visitors to the clubhouse will no longer leave the park smelling like smoke expelled from the lungs of the Tigers manager. They can even scrub the walls down there real good and get them back to their original color.

It's really a brave new world at 2100 Woodward Avenue starting tomorrow.

I understand great seats are still available for tonight's game. It's a bobblehead giveaway game for the kids. All adults get a free pack of cigarettes.**

*Actually, this may be "all for naught" as Leyland has said in the media that he cannot fully comply with the law. He is addicted you know.

**Ok, not really on the cigarettes.

I just figured he went to the clubhouse and snuck a smoke when stressed. With Porcello scheduled to start he may be in hiding soon. This is not a knock on Porcello, but just stating the fact he is having a bad start to the year and I am hoping he can get it turned around.

Agreed.

Hopefully this is just a minor hiccup for him as he is wonderful pitcher with loads of talent so this little stretch that he is going through is a little alarming.
