Kevin Russo
Kevin Russo of the Yankees had his first major league at bat today and did not even face a pitcher! He faced outfielder, Jonathan Van Every of the Red Sox who was pitching in a blowout.
Now there are a ton of obscure statistics out there but I defy anybody to prove that this has ever happened before. I bet only Cliff Claven would know.
Russo didn't even get a hit off of what I am guessing were 75 mph fastballs. I hope he didn't work the count or anything. Now, that would have been embarrassing.
That said, Van Emery last pitched 4-30-09 so he was pitching on 373 days rest so maybe he was really able to dial it up.
I bet Russo didn't even call his family to let them know of his very first major league plate appearance.
Would you?
