He should have been more careful!
On this date in 1974, a bench-clearing brawl broke out in a game between the Reds and the Pirates which was started when Reds pitcher Jack Billingham hit Bruce Kison with a pitch in the 4th inning. In the course of the melee, Pedron Borbon of the Reds reportedly pinned Daryl Patterson to the ground and pulled his hair out along with a piece of flesh.
I am quite sure that Patterson was not a collector of baseball cards.
Had he been and had he seen either the front or back of Borbon's 1970 card, he would would been on notice regarding any potential problems with Borbon.
As it was, he went in "blind".
