Lyman Bostock

On this date in 1978, Lyman Bostock was shot and killed in Gary, Indiana by Leonard Smith. Smith was shooting at his estranged wife who happened to be sitting next to Bostock in a car at the time.

Mr. Smith spent 21 months* in custody as a result of the murder and still walks the streets of Gary today. (A reporter found him in 2008)

*Yes that is "months" as opposed to "years". He successfully used the "My wife's infidelities** made me insane" defense.

**Bostock had only met her 20 minutes earlier.
