On today's date in 1971, Bobby Tolan of the Reds ruptures his Achilles tendon while playing basketball. He will miss the entire season and will never regain the form that he had in 1970 when he hit .316 and stole a league-leading 57 bases.
Obviously, I don't know the particulars of that basketball game but I do know one thing.
All the players were no doubt wearing Converse All Stars.
