On this date in 1965, Wally Pipp passed away at age 71.
Of course, Pipp famously lost his first baseman position with the Yankees to Lou Gehrig when he asked out of a game due to a beanball-induced headache.
"I took the two most expensive aspirin in history."

Maybe they weren't the most expensive aspirin. After all, he lived until he was 71. Gehrig never sat out with a beanball-induced headache and that might have been part of what killed him at age 37. How much were the extra 34 years worth to Pipp?
Never thought about it that way.
Who would rather be in the long run?
I pick Pipp.
