No arguments today

On this date in 1996, two Japanese umpires join two American umpires and work a spring training game between the Pirates and the Cardinals. Osamu Ino is behind the plate in the Pirates 11-2 victory.

"I thought the Japanese umpires did a good job," said Pirates manager Jim Leyland (2 million cigarettes ago). "And even if they didn't, you couldn't argue with them."

Reminds me of a story about one of the best lines I ever heard my brother say.......
We went to a Yankees spring training game in Tampa, 2003. While watching the players warm up, we saw Hideki Matsui talking to Ruben Sierra, neither of whom spoke any English, in the outfield.
My brother pointed at them and commented from between bites of his hit dog, "What the hell do those two guys have to say to each other??"

I can't remember ever seeing a mesh version of a pill-box hat. That thing is ridiculous and awesome at the same time.
