Bernie Carbo
Born on today's date, Bernie Carbo.
"I probably smoked two joints, drank three or four beers, got to the ballpark, took some amphetamines, took a pain pill, drank a cup of coffee, chewed some tobacco, had a cigarette, and got up to the plate and hit....I played every game high. I was addicted to anything you could possibly be addicted to. I played the outfield sometimes where it looked like the stars were falling from the sky."
Bernie Carbo describing his pre-game ritual before the 1975 World Series.

The kind of reaction that'd get today!
He sounds like some guys I knew in high school. Except none of them played ball.
No doubt but he said this many years after the fact.
Think about if he said this in 1976.
Take a glance at some Baseball Digests from this time period. There ain't nothin' remotely like this in there.
(I knew people like this in high school too.)
Sounds like a typical Tuesday morning to me...
