Sounds like that oil lubricant I used to use as a kid to smooth out my baseball glove.
Actually, one day I spilled it and a "Mitt Romney" stain remnant is still in the driveway of my old house!
That or that stain is something else. We did a lot of stuff there.

I had a Paul Blair model glove! In fact, because of that I began my re-entry into collecting by starting a Paul Blair player collection.
No doubt it does have multi-use applications.
As I recall it was really good for getting a totally rusted out bike chain functional where we could at least make it to the 7-11 so we could get a pack of cards, and back.
