On this date in 1987, Billy Hatcher of the Astros is ejected from a game and suspended for 10 games for using a corked bat.
"I was out of bats and I grabbed one of the pitchers' bats."
What is the scenario for the "running out of bats" situation to occur?
Really curious.

I think the better question would be how a corked bat is considered cheating.
haha, man I loved Billy Hatcher. I was a huge astros fan back in the day.
the old "running out of bats" excuse is genius compared to the "i use that one for batting practice" excuse.
nice, quick thinking Billy! and he stole home one time against the Red Sox I believe.
Spankee,
Considering that various scientific tests have shown that corked bats reduce your hitting range by about 10 feet, I think I agree with you.

Dominican Baseball Guy,
It is my understanding that the bat companies set up their players with NUMEROUS bats. I have never heard a player say he "ran out" which makes this comical. Well to me anyway.
