Born on today's date, John Candelaria.
Candelaria was originally scouted by the Dodgers and was in line to sign with them until he appeared at a tryout wearing a shirt that had a marijuana leaf on it and the caption "try some, you'll like it". The Dodgers then decided not to "try him with his evil leaf" and passed.
The Dodgers loss was the Pirates gain and Candelaria later threw a no-hitter for the Pirates against the Dodgers in 1976.
Moral of the story? I don't know other than that Candelaria liked to smoke pot and could pitch pretty well.
