Pete Rose
On this date in 1963, after eleven hitless at-bats, Pete Rose records his first major league hit, a triple off Bob Friend in a 12-4 Reds loss to the Pirates.
"What's the Hall of Fame going to be? Is it going to have no hit king, no home run king, no guy with the most Cy Youngs in it? That can't be good for the game. And that certainly can't be good for the Hall of Fame. Because believe it or not, the Hall of Fame isn't a bunch of altar boys."

I see the point (somewhat) that the Hall is filled with people that we not saints by any means. My issue with Rose, McGuire, Bonds, Clemens and others is their unsaintly acts directly affected the game. Babe Ruth was a drunk and a womanizer, but those actions didn't influence the outcome of a game, so to speak. Mantle was a alcoholic most of his life. Ted Williams was just an asshole. But being who they were did not cheat the game. The others padded their stats and actions to change the final numbers or the box score. To me, you don't deserve to be remembered for that.
Do you also have a problem with Mays and Aaron being in the HOF? Those are guys that are known "cheaters" as well.
