George Culver

On this date in 1968, George Culver of the Reds throws a no-hitter beating the Phillies 6-1.

"Chico Ruiz was a reserve infielder. In the first inning, he went to go to the bathroom and the manager (Dave Bristol) said 'Where are you going?' and he said 'I'm going to the bathroom.' The manager said 'You can't go until they get a hit.' Teasing him, you know. So he made him sit there. In the ninth inning, he's still sitting there. So when the game was over, when everybody else ran on the field, he ran to the bathroom."
