If he went into first standing up, I'll bet he would've been called safe. First base umpires often go by the sound of the foot hitting the bag and the sound of the ball hitting the glove.
I didn't see it live but I can't argue. I don't know why managers tolerate sliding into first and don't treat it the same as throwing to the wrong base or missing the cutoff man.
Another absolutely ridiculous call. Yes, Mark is an idiot for diving into the bag but it is not even close. At least the first baseman is on the base, unlike that call from earlier in the year where the guy was a yard from having his foot on the base. This umpire needs to be disciplined in some way.

Last year, the same umpire made what some call the worst call in baseball history.
