Bill Buckner

On this date in 1986, the Mets rally for 3 runs with 2 outs in the 10th inning against the Red Sox to win 6-5 in Game 6 of the World series forcing a Game 7. The tie-breaking run scores when Bill Buckner misplays a grounder hit to him at first base by Mookie Wilson.

"My first thought when it happened was 'Wow, I get to play in a seventh game of a World Series. How cool is that?'"

I really thought the guy got a bum rap. After all, his error wasn't the ONLY play which led to the Sox losing. But I DID like this old joke:
"Hey, did you hear that Bill Buckner tried to commit suicide but lived?"
"No! What happened??"
"He jumped in front of a train, but it went right through his legs."

Ha ha! The shame of it all is everybody forgets that the guy was darn good player. He had like (I could look it up) like 2700 career hits.
