Grover Cleveland Alexander

On this date in 1949, Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander is found lying unconscious in an alley in Hollywood, California missing one of his ears. He will die from liver disease less than a year later.

"I'd rather him pitch a crucial game for me drunk, than anyone I've ever known sober. He was that good." - Rogers Hornsby
