"I got hit in the head one game in Eau Claire (Wisconsin) and had to spend three weeks in the hospital. I was the first black person who ever went into the hospital there. I felt like a sideshow freak. They assigned different nurses to me every day so they could all get experience of being in my presence. Actually, I was treated very nicely."
