Vida Blue

On this date in 1972, Vida Blue ends his long holdout by agreeing to a $63,000 contract after balking at A's owner Charlie Finley's previous offers. Blue who won the 1971 American League MVP and Cy Young Award only wins 6 games in 1972.

"Charlie Finley has soured my stomach for baseball. He treated me like a damn colored boy."

He may have won only 6 but he had a 2.80 ERA!
