On this date in 1978, Lyman Bostock was shot and killed in Gary, Indiana by Leonard Smith. Smith was shooting at his estranged wife who happened to be sitting next to Bostock in a car at the time. Bostock had been visiting friends and had met her 20 minutes earlier.
Mr. Smith spent 21 months (nope not years) in custody as a result of the murder and still walks the streets of Gary today. (A reporter found him in 2008)
