Vida Blue

On this date in 1972, A's holdout Vida Blue announces that he has rejected the team's latest contract offer and will retire to work for a company that makes toilet fixtures. The 24-game winner in 1971 eventually comes to terms with the A's and begins the season in May.

"So you won 24 games? Why didn't you win 30?" - A's owner Charlie Finley during negotiations
