"After seven innings as I was coming to the dugout, umpire Harry Wendelstadt said 'You don't have to be so close'. I did not really pay attention. He started giving me the outside and after eight innings he said 'You don't have to get it so close' again. I realized that guy never called a no-hitter and he wants to call one. So I didn't come close that ninth inning."
