On this date in 1977, Lenny Randle of the Rangers, upset at being benched in spring training, physically attacks manager Frank Lucchesi sending him to the hospital with a shattered cheekbone. Lucchesi helped precipitate the incident by calling Randle a punk days prior. Randle is suspended for 30 days and then traded to the Mets.

"My only wish is that I wasn't ten years younger so I could have handled the situation." - Frank Lucchesi
