John Roseboro

Born today, none other than ex-Dodger John Roseboro. Unfortunately for John, his "claim to fame" is that he was clubbed over the head with a bat three times by Giants pitcher Juan Marichal during a game on August 22, 1965. Marichal was at the plate at the time with John Roseboro catching Sandy Koufax. Apparently, Roseboro received a pitch and threw the ball back to Koufax very close to the ear of Juan Marichal setting off a wild bat-swinging rampage by Marichal.

Roseboro's cranium proved to be no match for this baseball bat and he received a 2 inch gash on his head which required 14 stitches to close. Roseboro later sued Marichal over the incident and received a settlement which may have been around $110,000.

Roseboro learned a few things about Juan Marichal that day. One, he is protective of his ears. But beyond that, he learned that Marichal is direct, blunt and to the point.

No passive-aggressive stuff with Juan.

You definitely know where you stand with him.

Dang, where's a Taser when you really need one?

Can you IMAGINE the reaction if that were to happen today? We'd have to invent something to replace the internet because it would BLOW UP.

It is amazing looking back on it. As a kid, I had an illustrated history of baseball book and looking at those pictures, it just seemed unreal.

And yes, someone was desperately in need of a taser there. I bet the Players Union wouldn't like that much though.
